Worldwide Burmese Academy is for students with the ambition to become a journalist, activists, humanitarians, lawyers, lobbyists, politicians, or a diplomat focused on Burmese affairs and the sustainable development of Burma. The program includes pieces of training from ‘diplomatic negotiation skills’ to tackling fake news to media training. The aim is to gain the knowledge that is needed to become a skilled leader for a democratic Burma.
The academy has a duration of one academic year which ask for at least 3 hours of commitment a month (except December). There is a lecture or discussion every first Saturday of the month from 5 pm-7 pm CET. A guest speaker, professor, or someone from real life is then invited to speak and train the students to become the best leader they can be.
The academy is fully funded by the NGO, Worldwide Burmese Students, and has no profit-based business model. Therefore, when a student is selected for the academic year, they do not have to contribute financially. This is so that it stays accessible to every student and that it can truly distinguish the talent and ambition of each and every student.
As students of the academy, they are encouraged to produce independent intellectual outputs to influence public policy and give advice to any government that is active regarding Burma affairs. This can be through e-mail, lobbying or talking to the media, or protesting.
After successful graduation from the academy, the students will receive a certificate from Worldwide Burmese Students and are officially part of the WBS alumni network that will give them access to all the events of Worldwide Burmese Students around the globe.
